OBITUARY: Francis X. Regan, 78, Longtime Tewksbury Resident

TEWKSBURY, MA — Francis Xavier Regan, 78, a resident of Tewksbury for 44 years, passed away at the Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston on Monday, Dec. 5, 2016, following a lengthy battle with Multiple Sclerosis.

He was the beloved husband of Nortrud (Hoeres) Regan, with whom he celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary, having been married on April 20, 1963.

Born in Cambridge on June 14, 1938, he was the son of the late James J. Regan and the late Molly (Scanlon) Regan.

Frank was raised in Somerville, attended Somerville schools and graduated from Cathedral High School.

In 1959, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, and served during peacetime in Europe. Frank was awarded the Good Conduct Medal for his active duty service. While stationed in Germany, he met his wife Nortrud.
Following his honorable discharge from the U.S. Army, he and Nortrud were married one year later.

He resided in Somerville until moving to Tewksbury in 1972.

Prior to his retirement in 1991, he was employed for over 20 years as a mechanic by the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority.

Frank was a dedicated family man, a devout Catholic, and extremely proud of his Irish heritage.

He was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening, and was the go to guy when something needed fixing.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, James G. Regan of New Ipswich, NH, John F. Regan and his wife Christine of Billerica, Carolyn M. Regan of Dracut, and Michael F. Regan of Tewksbury; six grandchildren, Alexander, Samantha, Evan, Molly, Brendan, and Daniel Regan; two sisters, Mary H. Regan of West Somerville and Edgartown, Roberta Randlett of Woburn; nieces Kathy Lally of Bradford, Christine Pottle of Chelmsford, Jeanne Rainone of Tewksbury, and extended family members.

Calling hours are Thursday, Dec. 8, from 3-7 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. His funeral will be held Friday, Dec. 9, at 10:30 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. at St. Williams Church 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Interment at St. Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury.
