TEWKSBURY, MA -- State Sen. Barry Finegold (D-Norwood) introduced a bill that would grant Tewksbury eight new liquor licenses. The proposal, which includes six full liquor licenses for bars and restaurants and two for beer and wine sales only, was approved by town meeting in October. The bill needs to be passed by the state legislature and signed by Gov. Charlie Baker before the new licenses would be granted.

At the time the article was passed by town meeting, there was just one full liquor license remaining for the town to grant. The state sets limits for the number of liquor licenses that can be granted in a given municipality. The town collects $2,500 for the full liquor license and $1,500 for the beer and wine licenses.

The license are not earmarked for any particular business. Rather, they will be set aside for new businesses or existing businesses that want to serve alcoholic beverages.
