TEWKSBURY, MA — The Tew-Mac Tavern is set to reopen in coming months, more than a year after it was closed, supposedly permanently, representatives told the Board of Selectmen Tuesday.

The Tewksbury Country Club ownership decided to close the restaurant in April 2020 at the height of the coronavirus shutdown. Eleven months later, the club began advertising job openings at the restaurant.

The new restaurant will be housed in the club's former Pro Shop, the club said on Facebook. The main building was converted into an event space when the tavern was closed.

The new restaurant will have about 50 indoor and 50 outdoor seats, a representative told the selectmen — smaller than the old tavern.

Management hopes to open for events by the end of April and the restaurant by Memorial Day weekend, the end of May.

The management went before the selectmen to get a liquor license for the new Tew-Mac Tavern, splitting that business from the event space's existing liquor license.
