Tewksbury Memorial High Students Named Hats Off Winners For May

TEWKSBURY, MA — Tewksbury Memorial High School seniors Emma Jensen and Samantha Ryan have been named the Tewksbury Rotary Club Hats Off Award winners for May.

The Hats Off Award, a joint initiative between the Tewksbury Rotary Club and TMHS, recognizes students who have distinguished themselves academically, have contributed to co-curricular programs at the high school and have been involved in the community. Students are nominated by TMHS faculty.

Jensen and Ryan were nominated together by faculty member Jim Sullivan for their accomplishments with DECA and achievements as student-athletes.

Jensen and Ryan were two of four coordinators for the Meghan McCarthy Fashion Show. The coordinators planned and operated this year's show while working with their peers, local businesses and large corporations on the project, which raised $20,032.

The pair then competed in DECA through the Project Management Community Awareness Project, where they wrote a 20-page paper and presented it at the Massachusetts State Conference. Jensen and Ryan were named state champions.

At the International Development Conference, Jensen and Ryan competed against more than 150 teams in their event area. The duo finished first in their flight and moved on as international finalists, ultimately finishing somewhere between 11th and 17th.

Jensen was a four-year member of the TMHS varsity track and field team and a four-year member of the cross-country team. She also is a member of the Principal's List and is graduating Summa Cum Laude.

Jensen plans to attend the University of Alabama and study pre-law.

Ryan, meanwhile, starred on the TMHS softball team, which reached the state finals in 2022. Ryan was a two-time First Team All-Conference selection and the Merrimack Valley Conference Division 2 Player of the Year as a sophomore. She also was a standout on the basketball team.

Ryan, who is graduating Magna Cum Laude, plans to attend Saint Anselm College, where she will major in nursing and play softball.
