TEWKSBURY, MA — Tewksbury Memorial High School senior Kyle Adams has signed to compete in track and field at Merrimack College.

The school held a ceremony Monday as Adams signed his National Letter of Intent.

Adams began his high school athletic career as a basketball player and sprinter, and he was part of the cross-country team this past fall.

But over time, Adams has evolved into one of the best throwers in recent history, according to Fran Cusick, the TMHS boys and girls indoor track coach. Adams competes in the javelin, shot put and discus.

According to an online recruiting profile, the 5-foot-10, 200-pound Adams has indicated that he considers javelin his primary event. The profile lists Adams' top throws as: 145.4 in javelin, 44-7 in shot put, and 136-5 in discus.

As a junior, Adams finished 17th in the discus (126-10) at the Meet of Champions, formerly the All-State Meet. He also narrowly missed qualifying for the meet in javelin.

"Kyle is such a hard worker. He didn't have his best day at discus but he had a really successful season," Scott Wilson, the TMHS boys outdoor track coach, told the Tewksbury Town Crier after the Meet of Champions.

Wilson continued: "I think (Adams) missed out (qualifying for) the javelin event by an inch, which was disappointing to all of us. You want someone working that hard to get an opportunity to compete and improve. He certainly has been a force in the Merrimack Valley Conference (as a junior), and I have no doubt he will make some more noise at the state level (as a senior in 2022--23).”

At last Wednesday's MVC Season Opener at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Roxbury, Adams finished fourth in the shot put (42-1.5), which was the only throw event at the competition.

"(Adams) is a great kid, hard worker and has been extremely versatile for us," Cusick told Patch. "He's really embraced the sport, he's a good teammate and is willing to do whatever is asked for the team."
