Tewksbury Youth Lacrosse Association Introduces a New Program

Tewksbury Lacrosse's New Fall Program a Success

This past fall, the Tewksbury Youth Lacrosse Association began a new endeavor with the goal being to introduce more youth to the sport of lacrosse. Boys and girls aged three through 8th grade had the opportunity to try out lacrosse during a 6-week skills clinic. Over 70 kids participated in this new Sunday afternoon program. The clinic was well received as evidenced by the positive feedback provided by families and youth at the completion of the program.

While the program was overseen by Board members of TYLA, the drill stations were run by many teen lacrosse players who were able to share their wealth of knowledge about the game with a new group of kids.

In continuing this effort to increase understanding of lacrosse through participation, TYLA is offering two different programs for the spring. While it will continue with the typical, full equipment league or travel league, Tewksbury Lacrosse will build upon its successful fall program by offering a new recreational league in the spring.

The travel lacrosse league will be played through the Mass Bay Youth Lacrosse Association as it has in previous years with Tewksbury teams competing against other towns in the area. This league will require 2 practices a week with games on Sunday. Full equipment is needed. Sign ups for this league have recently been extended to December 15th.

The new recreational league will involve one mid-week practice and short sided, no contact games on Sundays against other Tewksbury teams using equipment provided by the league. As part of the program, TYLA hopes to offer mini-sessions to spectators at the time of practices so they can better understand the rules of the game, learn about equipment, and other information related to the sport. This recreational league will be offered to youth pre-k through grade 4.
