WORCESTER, MA — Tewksbury's Erin and Elizabeth Gallella have been stat-sheet stuffers for the Worcester State women's basketball team this season.

The twins were the 2019 Merrimack Valley Conference Small co-Most Valuable Players at Tewksbury Memorial High and are now senior standouts for a Worcester State team that entered the week 8-12 overall and 4-3 in the MASCAC.

Erin Gallella, a point guard, is averaging 11.5 points, 5.1 assists and 4.6 rebounds per game. Elizabeth, a small forward who recently returned from a broken foot, is averaging 9.2 points and 5.2 rebounds per game in nine contests.

"The Gallella twins have made their presence felt in their senior year both as players and leaders," Worcester State head coach Karen Tessmer said. "They have improved on the court with each season and are providing consistent scoring, rebounding and defense. We missed Lizzie in the starting lineup while she was out with a broken foot, but she has made an impact upon her return in January."

Tessmer continued: "(The Gallellas) both are excellent students of the game, Erin at the point and Lizzie at the three. They are two of our hardest workers at practice and in games and have provided on and off-court leadership to our team on a daily basis. When they both are on the court, they make our team better and the young players follow their example."

Both Gallellas are studying education —Erin is majoring in elementary education and history, while Elizabeth is majoring in elementary education and sociology — and both are doing their student teaching this semester and are scheduled to graduate in May.

But the pair has a few goals before that, which Erin explained in an interview on the Worcester State website.

"The end goal would be an MASCAC championship, that would be awesome," Erin Gallella said.

Worcester State, which plays in Division III, returns to action at 3 p.m. Saturday at Bridgewater State.
