Tewksbury's Public Health Museum Hosts Public Health Week Events

TEWKSBURY, MA — National Public Health Week takes place April 3-8, and Tewksbury's Public Health Museum will be marking the occasion with a series of events.

The museum, located at 365 East St., will host both virtual and in-person programs and welcome legislators and public health professionals for events about public health history and current public health topics.

  • April 3, 7 p.m.-8 p.m.: Virtual, The Tewksbury Public Library, 300 Chandler St. will feature a discussion with author Maryn McKenna about her new book "Big Chicken," where she examines the overuse of antibiotics in agriculture and the future of eating meet. The Zoom link is available online.
  • April 5, 2 p.m.-3 p.m., and April 6, 6 p.m.-7 p.m.: Narcan Training — Narcan can reverse the effects of an opioid or fentanyl overdose, and anyone can learn to administer it. Registration for the training is available online.
  • April 5, 7 p.m.-8 p.m.: Outbreak — What I Gained From the Program — Outbreak! is the Public Health Museum's summer program, and a panel of students will share their Outbreak! experiences and what they learned. Details about registration can be found on the Public Health Museum website.
  • April 6, 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m.: Public Health Museum Open House — The museum will be open for indoor and outdoor campus tours free of charge. Check the tour schedule on the Public Health Museum website for availability.
  • April 7, 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m.: Virtual, Public Health Forum — A panel of public health officials from rural districts and towns will discuss the challenges of providing health services in these small, often isolated communities. Register for the webinar online.
  • April 8, 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.: Smallpox Cemetery Walk — This walk will feature a guided 3-mile loop along the Concord River to Billerica's hidden smallpox cemetery. The tour costs $15 and registration is available online.
