TEWKSBURY, MA — The Town of Tewksbury has released guidelines for de-icing your home or business during the winter season in a way that keeps stormwater clean.

While salt on the roads keeps people safe, once that salt is washed away, it makes its way into nearby wetlands, streams, rivers, and groundwater.

This raises the salinity content of soil and makes it more difficult for plants to absorb nutrients. It also has an effect on wildlife and can negatively impact the water supply.
