Dombroski releases response to Sen. Jason Lewis’ latest false attack

"We all deserve better from our elected leaders," said Dombroski.

The following is a response from state Senate candidate Ed Dombroski to Sen. Jason Lewis' latest false attack:

State Senator Jason Lewis

Dear Senator Lewis:

Prior to announcing my state Senate run, I called as a courtesy to inform you. In my voicemail, I said that I hoped you would join me in a respectful, albeit spirited campaign befitting of the office we both seek. I’m sad to see that you are unwilling to oblige.

Yesterday, in the latest in a series of false attacks you’ve made against me on social media, you disgracefully crossed a line. You somehow found it appropriate to allege that I am “hiding in the shadows” on where I stand on LGBTQ+ rights and write in fine print under my photograph the words “*Has not taken public position*.”

Senator Lewis, my life is an everyday demonstration of my “public position.” I am a gay man and a member of the very LGBTQ+ community you are referring to. Far from “hiding in the shadows,” my partner of 20 years and I have lived our lives openly and with great pride. We have experienced, in deeply personal and emotional ways, the challenges and triumphs of a community that has fought to gain acceptance and equality. Your post yesterday was a reminder of those challenges and an insult to those triumphs.

I have been a tireless advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and that would have been clear to you if you had taken the time to actually review my record. I have delivered impassioned speeches, crisscrossed this district attending Pride Month events in our communities, posted on social media promoting acceptance and inclusion, spoken encouragingly to our youth, and was a strong and public supporter of the transgender rights bill that Massachusetts voters overwhelmingly passed.

Your actions are not only deeply offensive, but beneath the office you currently hold. This is not “campaigning,” but rather a troubling insight into your lack of judgment and true character.

I hope the people of our district join me in condemning your actions because they transcend this election, party affiliation, sexual orientation, race, age, or gender identity. We all deserve better from our elected leaders.

Sincerely,

Ed Dombroski
