WAKEFIELD, MA – State Senator Jason Lewis is proud to be endorsed by several members of the Wakefield Town Council in his campaign for re-election to the state Senate. The councilors who have endorsed Senator Lewis are Mehreen Butt (Chair), Jonathan Chines (Vice-Chair), Julie Smith-Galvin, Mike McLane, and Bob Vincent.

In endorsing Senator Lewis for re-election, the councilors cited his track record of delivering results for Wakefield and his responsiveness to the needs of the community. For example, they pointed to his leadership as Senate Chair of the Education Committee in the passage of the historic Student Opportunity Act in 2019, which has resulted in increased state funding for Wakefield public schools, including an increase of $1 million (+15%) in Chapter 70 school funding for Fiscal Year 2023.

“I have enjoyed partnering with Senator Lewis over the years as he delivers results for Wakefield,” said Mehreen Butt, Town Council Chair. “I am extremely appreciative of the state budget earmarks for the community garden and improvements at Lake Quannapowitt that he secured for us. He also continues to lead on progressive policies for Massachusetts by passing laws including protecting abortion access, combating climate change and expanding voting rights.”

“Jason is a true partner to the communities in our district, and he’s delivered for Wakefield whenever we’ve needed him,” said Jonathan Chines, Town Council Vice-Chair. “I’m proud to support him because he’s a visionary leader in the Senate, and a tireless champion for public education, health care, and civil rights.”

“As a disabled veteran, I truly appreciate Jason’s support for veterans rights and benefits,” said Bob Vincent, Town Councilor. “Of significant note, I applaud his longstanding efforts to pass legislation designed to provide annual cost of living adjustments for veterans benefits.”

"Senator Lewis has proven again and again that he understands Wakefield's needs and opportunities,” said Julie Smith-Galvin, Town Councilor. “From clean energy and public health to opportunities for students and seniors, Jason's knowledge, leadership, and votes have delivered results for every Wakefield resident. Jason is an invaluable partner when it comes to making Wakefield a stronger, more inclusive, and sustainable town, and I am proud to endorse him."

Jason has been accessible and a great friend to, and resource for Wakefield for many years,” said Mike McLane, Town Councilor. “His leadership and ability to deliver results will further benefit Wakefield in the future.”

“I greatly respect and appreciate the hard work and leadership of our local elected officials, and value the strong partnership that we have built to best serve the residents of Wakefield,” said Senator Jason Lewis. “I’m proud and honored to receive the endorsements of Councilors Butt, Chines, Smith-Galvin, McLane, and Vincent.”

Senator Lewis has represented Wakefield (which is part of the Fifth Middlesex District) in the state Senate since 2014. He will be facing Republican Ed Dombroski, who also serves on the Wakefield Town Council, in the November election.
