ADULT SERVICES

Virtual Author Talk: College Admissions
As an admissions officer at Stanford University, Irena Smith spent 18 years working with anxious parents and students. In her memoir, The Golden Ticket: A Life in College Admission Essays, she explores the burdens and strains of the admissions process and offers practical, healthy ways to approach it. Register. Mindfulness Mondays
Participants are welcome to find a quiet, comfortable space to relax and join mindfulness teacher Lauren Masse for a calming Monday lunch break meditation via Zoom. Practice clearing your mind, being in the present moment, and reducing stress in these 30-minute meditation classes. Participants will be introduced to, and guided through, a different type of meditation each class. Register for the series. Monday, August 19 and 26, and September 16, 23, and 30 at 12:30 p.m.

Adult Craft: Hydrangea Painting
Join us in person for an engaging acrylic painting class with Janell Scanell and Lisa Walker of Pop Up Art School. Participants will discover new techniques in a fun, social atmosphere. All materials provided, just bring your craft enthusiasm! Limit 15 people, ages 13+. Register. Thursday, August 22 at 3 p.m.

Author Talk: Will You Thrive in College?
College coach Rachel Spooner taught at the university level for many years. In her new book, Tales from a Professor’s Office: An Insider’s Guide to Thriving in College, she offers valuable tips, insights, and advice to students—and their families—that will help them make the most of their life in college, and beyond. SUMMER READING

Our 2024 Summer Reading Program Read, Renew, Repeat will be wrapping up on August 16. Kids have until then to log their reading to earn raffle tickets for prizes. All participants are invited to an ice cream social on August 15 to celebrate their reading. The Teen Summer Reading Program is also wrapping up on August 18. Teens have until then to log their reading to earn raffle tickets for prizes. For last minute joiners, kids and teens can still register for our Summer Reading programs online at WaylandLibrary.Beanstack.org.

The Massachusetts Statewide Summer Library Program is funded by the Massachusetts Library System, the Boston Bruins, and the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners. Additional funding for Wayland’s Summer Reading program came from the Friends of the Wayland Public Library, the Wayland Cultural Council, and the Arthur Ashley Williams Foundation.

Outdoor Baby & Toddler Storytime with Ms. Pam
Our Baby & Toddler program moves outside! Weather permitting, we will meet outside on the lawn. Please register. Tuesdays, August 13, August 20, and August 27 at 10:30 a.m.

Music, Story, Fun! with Ms. Janet
Join Ms. Janet for a musical storytime. She’ll bring her ukulele, rainbow bells, and puppets! We will meet in the Children’s Room. For ages birth through age 4, with caregivers. Please register. Thursdays, August 15, August 22, and August 29 at 10:30 a.m.

Stuffed Animal Sleepover and Pajama Storytime
Bring your stuffie anytime starting at 6:00 p.m. P.J. Storytime starts at 6:30 p.m. After you leave, your stuffies will have all kinds of fun sleeping over at the library! Pick them up later in the week, and you will get a photo collage of the sleepover! You are welcome to wear your pj’s if you want. Ms. Janet will lead the storytime. For ages 3 and up, with caregiver. Movement with Little Beats
Join Little Beats for 30 minutes of music, movement, and fun! For ages 1 to 5, with caregiver. Please register HERE. Friday, August 16, at 10:30 a.m.

Sing, Move, and Story!
Ms. Jodi from Family ACCESS Community Connections will lead children in songs and movement, and share a story! For ages 0 to 3, with caregiver. Please register HERE. Wednesday, August 21, at 9:30 a.m.

FOR ELEMENTARY AGE CHILDREN

Kindness Rocks
Children are invited to decorate their own kindness rocks! Let’s make this world better, together. Bring your own rock, or paint the rocks we provide. If you would like, you can leave one painted rock here for a rock display in the library’s front garden. This project is inspired by Linda Kranz’s book Only One You. We will also learn a bit about rocks! For ages 5 and up. Please register HERE. We will meet on the library lawn, weather permitting. Tuesday, August 13, at 3:30 p.m.

Make a Mobile from Recyclables
Children will create mobiles using tree branches and all kinds of natural objects, including sea shells, stones, pinecones, bark, feathers and a pretend diamond! Ms. Elise will lead this workshop. For ages 5 and up, with caregiver. Please register HERE. Wednesday, August 14, at 3:30 p.m.

Ice Cream Social
All participants in our Summer Reading Program are invited to an Ice Cream Party to celebrate their reading! Children will make their own ice cream sundaes! We will meet on the lawn behind the library. Please register HERE. Thursday, August 15, at 3:30 p.m.

Read to Blue Bear the Dog
Children will have a chance to visit with Blue Bear, a beautiful Samoyed, and even read to him! He will be accompanied by his owner, Dana. We will meet in the Raytheon Room. For children ages 4 and up, with caregiver. Please register HERE. Wednesday, August 21, at 3:30 p.m.

Pokemon Card Trading Day
Children are invited to a Pokemon card trading day at the library. Come with cards you are willing to trade! For ages 7 to 11. Please register HERE. Wednesday, August 28, at 4:00 p.m.
