WAYLAND, MA — Wayland police will soon really put the "serve" in the phrase "to serve and protect."

This month, local police will hold a "pops with cops" event at the town beach on Lake Cochituate. Officers will serve free ice cream to attendees, also giving residents the chance to meet and greet the police.

Wayland will use the Chelsea Police Department's own ice cream truck for the event. That department rolled out the "copsicle" vehicle over the summer of 2017 to connect with young people and ice cream lovers of all ages.
