All Three Phases Show Up As Wilmington Thumps Gloucester, 30-0
The Wildcats travel to play undefeated Marblehead on Friday night in the Division 4 North Semifinals.
WILMINGTON, MA -- It's been a season of firsts for the Wilmington High School football team: first season for Coach Craig Turner. The first time the school played a post-season game at home. And, after last night's 30-0 win over Gloucester, the first time the team has won a playoff game.
Wilmington (7-1) will move on to play second-seeded Marblehead (8-0), which beat Wakefield 28-14 Friday night in the Division Four North semifinals. That game kicks off Friday at 7 pm in Marblehead.
While it's a first for the team, it's not a first for Turner. Before taking over the Wilmington program, he coached Mystic Valley to the finals of the Division Four North finals and an 8-3 record. Turner's team was the first charter school to win a high school playoff game in Massachusetts, and he was the first to coach a player to a Division I college offer in Mystic's Valley's history.
