Benjamin Bloomenthal To Lead Finance, Accounting Department At RMLD

The electric utility serves 70,000 residents in the towns of Reading, Wilmington, North Reading and Lynnfield Center.

READING, MA — Reading Municipal Light Department (RMLD) — which serves customers in Reading, Wilmington, North Reading and parts of Lynnfield Center — has announced the hiring of Benjamin Bloomenthal as its director of finance and accounting.

Bloomenthal brings with him over 20 years of experience in finance and administration, according to RMLD.

Bloomenthal has served as the director of finance and administration for the City of Somerville, where he oversaw the Department of Public Works' $33 million budget.

Additionally, Bloomenthal worked as the manager of federal programs for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA). In that position, Bloomenthal managed the MBTA's budget and grant programs for government agencies like the Federal Transit Administration, the Federal Railroad Administration, the Department of Homeland Security and the Environmental Protection Agency.

Earlier in his career, Bloomenthal worked in grant management for the Boston Medical Center and Brigham Women's Hospital and as a senior auditor for the Office of the State Auditor.

At RMLD, Bloomenthal will be responsible for leading the finance, accounting and purchasing team and will be part of a six-person senior management team.

"We are excited that Benjamin is filling this important role leading RMLD's finance team and will be helping secure grant funding for projects that will bolster our reliability, keep our rates competitive, and decarbonize our power portfolio," said Greg Phipps, the interim general manager of the RMLD. "His deep knowledge, experience and drive to contribute make him an excellent addition to our new leadership team."
