Elizabeth "Betty" Peters, 82, of Wilmington

WILMINGTON, MA — Elizabeth A. Peters (Johnson), fondly known as “Betty” to her family and friends, age 82, of Wilmington, died peacefully with her family at her side on January 9, 2017, at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington.

Betty was born in Wakefield, MA on November 8, 1934; she was the dear daughter of the late Albert and Marjorie Johnson. Betty was raised and educated in Wakefield and a graduate of Wakefield High School with the Class of 1951.

Betty married George Peters on October 23, 1955; the couple settled in Wilmington in 1956 where they raised a wonderful family of five children. Betty was a very devoted and loving mother and a wonderful homemaker. Betty’s unconditional love and support for her family was evident in everything she did. Betty beamed as she spoke of her children and grandchildren; she was very proud of all of them.

Betty was a woman of many talents and hobbies; she was very musically inclined and could play the piano beautifully. Betty had a lovely singing voice and she enjoyed teaching her grandchildren to sing and play the piano.

Betty was an avid bowler; she belonged to a few bowling leagues throughout the years and made many friends along the way. In her spare time, Betty also enjoyed working in her yard and she had quite a “green thumb”.

Betty had a passion for helping others; for many years, she was involved in the A.I.M. (Access is Mandatory) group in Wilmington. Betty volunteered her time helping others in need and was always willing to go over and above for anyone.

Betty was also involved with the P.E.O. Sisterhood of International Women Helping Woman. This is a group that helps Women reach for the stars and make the most of their potential through scholarships, career opportunities, and help with everyday living. Betty was proud of being part of an organization that was changing lives for the better.

Betty will be fondly remembered as a remarkable woman, helpful, kind, and caring. Betty would go out of her way to help anyone in need and was always there for her family and friends. Betty will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Betty was the beloved wife of George A. Peters, devoted mother of James Peters & wife Dorothy of Derry, NH, Kenneth Peters & wife Linda of Nottingham, NH, Sharon Dudash & husband Edward of Deltona, FL, Laurie Woodland & husband David of Shirley, MA and Gregory Peters of Wilmington, MA. Loving “Grammy” of Valerie & Jeffrey Peters, Christopher & Sandra Dudash, Pamela, Michele & Michael Woodland, “Great-Grammy” of Ravyn and Victoria. Cherished daughter of the late Albert and Marjorie (Scott) Johnson, dear sister of Harry Johnson of Acton, MA, Carl Johnson & wife Carla of North Carolina and the late Linda Maxfield. Betty is also survived by several brothers and sisters-in-law as well as many nieces and nephews.
