Hydroplane Crash Kills 1 On I-93 In Wilmington: Police

A two-car accident on drenched roads Sunday night led to the death of a passenger, according to state police.

WILMINGTON, MA — A two-car crash that was likely the result of hydroplaning resulted in one death and injured others, according to state police. Police responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident on I-93 southbound in Wilmington at 7:21 p.m. Sunday.

A 2008 Honda Civic and a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado were driving southbound near exit 33. A preliminary investigation found that the Honda hydroplaned and left the road into the median. The car then hit the guardrail, reentered the road, and traveled across all the lanes where it collided with the pickup truck in the right lane.

The passenger in the Honda sustained serious, life-threatening injuries. She was transported to Lahey Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. The victim's name has not been released.

All others involved in the crash were transported to Lahey and Winchester hospitals with apparent non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
