Major Traffic Delays Follow Crash On I-93 In Wilmington: UPDATE

WILMINGTON, MA — A tractor-trailer accident on I-93 South in Wilmington has led to a traffic nightmare. The rollover crash at Exit 35 resulted in all southbound lanes being closed early Monday morning, according to a Mass DOT tweet.

Traffic was backed up 8 or 9 miles as of 6:30 a.m. Drivers are asked to seek alternate routes if possible.

At 7 a.m., one I-93 South lane reopened and heavy tows were on scene where the tractor-trailer crashed.

State police tweeted that the tractor-trailer involved in the accident was hauling junked car parts.

Clean-up was still ongoing, and as of 8 a.m. it was expected that it will take more than 3 hours for all lanes to reopen, according to state police.

Aerial images of the scene show the tractor-trailer bed flipped on its side and surrounded by debris, according to NBC-10 Boston. At least one other vehicle was taken away on a flatbed tow truck.
