WILMINGTON, MA — A man was arrested following a police pursuit across multiple towns that ended in an accident. Ron Jeremiah Bell Jr. then fled the crash, leaving behind an injured passenger, according to police.

At 1:35 a.m., a police patrol car initiated a traffic stop on a car driving erratically. The vehicle then fled from police and went on I-93 south, where police lost sight of it.

Police located the vehicle a short while later on Lowell Street, where the suspect attempted to ram a Wilmington cruiser twice, "demonstrating a blatant disregard for public safety," police said in a statement.

Police pursued the vehicle on I-93 north. The vehicle took exit 35 and eventually crashed on Andover Street.

Bell, who police said was driving the vehicle, fled into a wooded area, leaving behind a woman who suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries, according to police. She was transported to Lahey Hospital.

State and local police then searched for Bell. They eventually located him at 7 a.m. near 200 Andover St.

Police said he attempted to flee and was arrested following a struggle. Bell had a gun when he was arrested, police said.

Bell will face multiple charges, including assault with a dangerous weapon, carrying a firearm without a license, resisting arrest, and possession of a Class B substance, according to police. He was scheduled to be arraigned Friday at Woburn District Court.

Chief Joseph Desmond praised the involved officers for their "exemplary performance and restraint in handling an extremely dangerous and volatile situation," according to a police statement.
