Wilmington Getting New Barbecue Restaurant

Code 1 BBQ previously operated as a catering business in Woburn, but soon will become a full-time restaurant at 211 Main St. in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, MA — A new barbecue restaurant is opening in Wilmington, though its food may be familiar to some in the area.

In a recent post on the Merrimack Valley East Facebook page, Erica Marchant announced that she and her husband Sean Marchant are bringing Code 1 BBQ to their hometown of Wilmington soon. The restaurant will be located 211 Main St. in the old LaRosa's, which is moving to a new space.

The Marchants have spent the last year operating Code 1 BBQ as a catering and preorder takeout barbecue place out of a kitchen in Woburn. The company's full-service catering team remains available for birthdays, graduations, holidays, family and friend gatherings, private or corporate luncheons, parties, events, and weddings, Erica Marchant said.

Erica Marchant said that she and Sean also spent the last year going to different community markets to introduce themselves, their food and their brand to the public.

Now, the Marchants are turning Code 1 BBQ into a full-time restaurant.

"Our vision for Code 1 BBQ is to continue to create delicious, scratch-made smoked meats and sides for our family, friends, neighbors and local communities," Erica Marchant said on Facebook. "We chose Wilmington especially because we live here and are so excited to be a part of the growing business community here. Supporting our community and local business is a priority for us."

According to Code 1, Sean is an Airforce veteran — which is the inspiration for the Code 1 name — and the pitmaster. Erica, meanwhile, is an author, entrepreneur and chef.

Erica said the menu features smoked meats that are gluten, dairy and soy free. There also are vegetarian and vegan menu options.
