Wilmington High School Opens Football Playoffs At Home On Friday Night

Wilmington's 6-1 record was good enough for a third seed in the MIAA's Division 4 North tournament.

WILMINGTON, MA -- Wilmington High School's football team, which finished the regular season at 6-1, was seeded third in the MIAA's Division 4 North playoffs. Wilmington will open the eight-team tournament Friday at 7 pm when they host sixth-seeded Gloucester (5-2).

If Wilmington were to win Saturday's game, they would advance to play the winner of Marblehead (7-0) and Wakefield (3-4) on either November 3 or November 4 at a time to be announced after the four first round games are completed.

Shawsheen Regional Technical High School, which finished the season at 5-2, was seeded 3rd and will play the MIAA's Division 6 North playoffs and will host Whittier (5-2) on Friday at 7 pm. The winner of that would game would play the winner of Stoneham (5-2) and Ipswich (4-3) in the second round. Shawsheen Tech in located in Billerica and serves students from Burlington, Wilmington, Bedford, Tewksbury and Billerica.

The MIAA switched to a playoff format in 2010. The state semi-finals are scheduled for the weekend of November 17 and 18, with state championship games scheduled for December 2 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough. For more on the state football tournament, see the MIAA football Website.
