WILMINGTON, MA — The Town of Wilmington has announced that its annual water main flushing and valve exercising program is set to begin next month.

The program, which is conducted by the Water Division of the Department of Public Works, is scheduled to start on April 18. Over the following eight weeks, the flushing program will be conducted from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. on Monday through Friday, according to town officials.

"Flushing the water mains aids in removing sediments that collect in the pipeline resulting in improved water quality," town officials said in a statement.

Officials also said that water main flushing could cause some water in local homes to become discolored temporarily. If this is the case, officials said that running the water for a few minutes should be enough for the water to become clear again.

The water will remain safe to drink during the water main flushing and valve exercising program, officials said.
