Wilmington Weather: Snow, High Winds for Sunday

Snow is on the way and with is some dangerous winds throughout the day on Sunday. Here's what you need to know.

WILMINGTON, MA - A quick snow storm coming through could make for dangerous conditions Sunday morning, while a high wind warning is also now in effect for Wilmington and much of the state.

The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday. All of Eastern Massachusetts is impacted by this warning.

Eastern Massachusetts is also under a winter weather advisory from 3-11 a.m. on Sunday morning and the National Weather Service calls this one a high impact, short duration storm.

The area is expected to see a brief period of heavy snow with near whiteout conditions possible. Most of Massachusetts will see anywhere from one to four inches of snow. The National Weather Service does say there is a low risk of an isolated five to six inches across higher terrain.

Timing of the Storm

Rain is expected to spread over the region after midnight before changing to snow from northwest to southeast between 3 a.m. and 7 a.m. Sunday. There may also be some thunder mixed in. The snow is expected to quickly end by late morning.

Officials are warning drivers that near whiteout conditions are possible early Sunday morning and despite the warm grown snow will stick on roads where it falls heavily. There is also the chance of near zero visibility for a time.

Wind Advisory

From the middle of the storm until 7 p.m. Sunday night watch for strong winds throughout the area.

Winds are expected to be 25 to 35 mph with gusts between 50 and 65 mph with the strongest gusts Sunday morning across the south coast, the Cape and Islands.

These winds could lead to downed trees and power outages.
