Winchester Delegation Secures $150,000 for Local Priorities

State Legislature sends funding to Winchester in Fiscal Year 2025 state budget

BOSTON—State Senators Jason Lewis and Pat Jehlen and State Representatives Michael Day and Michelle Ciccolo are pleased to announce that they secured $150,000 for various local priorities in Winchester as part of the final Fiscal Year 2025 (FY25) Massachusetts state budget.

The FY25 state budget, totaling $58 billion, received final passage by the House of Representatives and Senate on July 19, 2024, and was signed into law by Governor Maura Healey on July 29, 2024. This budget delivers significant levels of investment in early education and childcare, K-12 public schools, public higher education, housing, healthcare, transportation, workforce development, and more, as part of a comprehensive strategy to make Massachusetts more affordable and equitable for all.

Within the budget, Senators Lewis and Jehlen and Representatives Day and Ciccolo secured $100,000 for the purchase, operation, and maintenance of solid waste management equipment and $50,000 for the design, renovation, and maintenance of recreational parks and facilities in Winchester.

“This budget will deliver substantial resources to our communities, and make our state more affordable for working families by helping to address the high costs of housing, healthcare, childcare, and college,” said State Senator Jason Lewis. “I’m especially pleased that Senator Jehlen, Representatives Day and Ciccolo, and I were able to also secure funding for some important local Winchester priorities.”

“This budget makes some really impactful investments for people across the state,” said State Senator Pat Jehlen. “I'm always happy to work with Senator Lewis and our House colleagues to ensure Winchester's needs are prioritized.”

“I am extremely grateful that my colleagues in the House, including Representative Ciccolo, supported my earmark requests for funding to the Town of Winchester to improve operations at the transfer station as well as the recreational parks and facilities in town,” said State Representative Michael Day. “I also greatly appreciate the advocacy of Senator Lewis and Senator Jehlen, which was essential to securing these earmarks in the final budget.”

“Despite softening revenues, this year we were able to pass a solid budget that protects our vital services especially education, local aid, housing, and transportation while also investing specifically in our communities,” said State Representative Michelle Ciccolo. “I appreciate the initiatives of Rep. Michael Day in bringing forth several key earmarks and was glad to join Senators Lewis and Jehlen in supporting funding for a number of great projects that will directly benefit the Town of Winchester.”
