5 Things to Know About the Woburn-Winchester Thanksgiving Football Game

The Tanners will hope to send off longtime head coach Rocky Nelson on a high note.

WOBURN, MA — The Woburn Memorial High School Tanners and Winchester High School Sachemswill meet for the 118th time Thursday for yet another Thanksgiving Day classic. As one of the state's oldest football rivalries, history is plentiful in this thanksgiving rivalry. Here are five things you should know about the game before you head to the stadium.

1. Game Details

Thursday's contest will begin at 10 a.m. at Connolly Stadium in Woburn.

2. 2016 Season Records

After an 0-3 start, the Tanners have turned in a 5-2 finish to enter the rivalry contest with a 5-5 record. Winchester also enters the game with some momentum, winning three of their last four to enter the contest with a 5-5 record.

3. All-time series

According to the Boston Globe, the all-time record between the two squads is 46-53-12 in favor of the Sachems. This will be the 112th meeting between the two squads.

4. Woburn hopes to send off Nelson with a victory

Woburn head coach Rocky Nelson has announced that he will step down after the 2016 season after a historic 30-year career as the head of Woburn football. Five of Nelson's teams have advanced to the postseason, with the 2005 team capturing the Division 1A Super Bowl. Nelson is one of 50 Massachusetts coaches with more than 200 wins.
