Mass Layoffs Hit Woburn Office Distribution Company

A company with operations in Woburn will close that facility later this year, according to a report.

WOBURN, MA — Essendant, an office wholesale distribution company with operations in Woburn, will lay off 82 workers, according to documents filed with the state Jan. 18.

The layoffs will occur from March 15 and July 1.

The company will close its Woburn facility, the Boston Business Journal reported.

The company is based in Illinois and has 23 locations across the country. One of those is its 295,000-square-foot site at 415 Wildwood Ave. in Woburn.

The reason for the layoffs was not disclosed.

Essendant is owned by the same parent company office giant Staples, which is based in Framingham. Sycamore Partners purchased Essendant two years after it bought Staples in 2019, The Boston Business Journal reported.
