Beat The Heat North Of Boston This Weekend

With record high temperatures in the forecast, Patch has a rundown of splash pads, pools and other places where you can cool off.

WOBURN, MA — Weather forecasters are warning of possible, record-breaking temperatures this weekend, with a high of 97 on Saturday and a high of 95 of Sunday. That means whatever weekend plans you had are now being replaced with "stay cool" and "stay hydrated." We can help you with the first part with the following list of places north of Boston that offer fun ways to cool off.

Swimming Pools

Several YMCAs north of Boston offer access to their swimming pools to nonmembers for a daily fee, including:

  • Sterling YMCA in Beverly ($15 for adults, $7 for kids 14-18 and $4 for kids 0-13)
  • Danvers Community YMCA ($10 per person or $15 per family)
  • YMCA Outdoor Pool and Water Park in Ipswich ($25 for nonmembers over 18, $20 for ages 4-17 ad $15 for ages 0-3)

Other Places To Swim

Beaches are likely to be crowded this weekend, so we're offering some suggestions that may draw fewer swimmers:

  • Andover residents can buy a season pass to Pomps Pond, which is open from noon to 7 p.m. daily. There are also day- and weekend passes available.
  • The town beach at Silver Lake in Wilmington is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. Non-residents can buy a day pass for $10

Splash Pads

Talk about bad timing: Tewksbury had to close its splash pad for maintenance this week and while it was originally not scheduled to reopen until Monday, the town now says it will be ready to go on Saturday. Other area splash pads include:

  • The splash pad at Bradley Palmer State Park in Ipswich is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Parking is $5.
  • There is a splash pad at Lynch Park in Beverly. Parking costs $10 on weekdays and $20 on weekends.
