WOBURN, MA — The owners of Woburn's newest restaurant are hoping others spent the pandemic the same way they did: "sitting at home, gaining weight."

"I'm sure a lot of them are going to be looking for healthy options," co-owner Tosha Shah said.

If that describes you, the new restaurant Tosha and her husband Atit Shah opened at Woburn Village Friday might be the place for you: Saladworks.

The salad chain has over 100 locations across the country, but Woburn's will be the first in Massachusetts. They specialize in salads, but also offer soups, sandwiches, wraps and paninis.

The Shahs lived and worked in Woburn for over a decade, Shah said.

"Whenever we would go out to lunch, it was always hard to find healthy options," she said. "So we decided to research and see what healthy options we can give. We found Saladworks and got really excited.

The restaurant offers over 60 salad ingredient options, meaning seemingly limitless build-your-own combinations, as well as "signature" options like Shah's favorites, the Avocado Cobb Salad and the Bently Salad (Smoked Ham, Roasted Turkey, Provolone Cheese, Sliced Egg and Diced Tomatoes.)

"People make salads and think they're boring, but if you come to Saladworks, you'll find, salads aren't boring," she said.

With the state opening up, Shah said Friday's opening is perfect timing.

"Everybody who's been walking by has said, 'We can't wait to come in,'" she said. "We want this to open up."

Shahw also noted that they will offer a 15 percent discount to first responders, "as a little way of telling them thank you."

Saladworks is open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily at 300 Mishawum Road.
