Fred C. Brown Jr., 84, Lifelong Woburn Resident

WOBURN, MA — Fred C. Brown Jr. passed away at the Edith Norse Veteran’s Hospital in Bedford, Friday, January12th. The beloved husband of Marianne (Ward) Brown, he was eighty four years of age

A life long resident of Woburn, Fred was one of five children born to the late Fred C. and Edna P. (Wilson) Brown Sr.. While growing up Fred was quite an outstanding athlete. Always enjoying baseball and softball he played many a game down at library field amongst the different leagues . Fred graduated from Woburn High School with the Class of 1950. Immediately following high school he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving our country proudly until 1953 when he returned home.

Fred began working at Raytheon and in 1956 accepted a position with the United States Postal Service, where he remained until his retirement in the late 70’s. He so enjoyed his job! Being a true gentleman with a beautiful smile and wonderful disposition, he so enjoyed meeting and talking with people. Each and every day along his route, everyone knew Fred! Over his career Fred covered the city from Central Square to the south end, and knew just about everyone.

Fred had married Marianne Ward, the true love of his life and they journeyed together over sixty-two years. They brought four children into the world of which he was so very proud. There was always a vacation each year during the summer months and it was off to the beach for some fun in the sun. As the children grew, beginning families of their own Fred took on the role as grandfather and was affectionately called “Bumm.” He could not have been prouder! He had a wonderful love for his grandchildren and whatever they were doing, he was right there with all the enthusiasm and excitement of the moment.

Fred and Marianne also were able to travel over the years. Off to Alaska, a Bahamas cruise, Disneyland and even crossed the United States twice; each time able to visit their two sons who were serving in the armed forces in different states.

Fred lived and loved to the fullest. A very warm, caring, kind and friendly man Fred never missed the opportunity to give a big smile and kind word to anyone in his vision.

The last several months were not easy ones for Fred but his family could not thank enough, the Nurses and CNA’s at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, West 1, for the meticulous attention, respect and dignity shown to Fred over his time spent there.

Sadly Fred was predeceased by his parents, his siblings Ruth Brown Crowley and her husband Joe, Jean McGarr and her husband Bill, and brother in law Edward McLaughlin.

He is lovingly survived by his wife of sixty two years Marianne, children,Paula J. Stenquist, her husband David of Woburn, Fred C. Brown III, his wife Eileen of Woburn, Richard C. Brown, his wife Deborah of GA and Marica A. Brown, her wife Debra Govostes of Woburn. Dear brother of Dorothy McLaughlin, of Woburn, Ellen Smith, her husband Lester of FL. Cherished "Bumm" of David Paul Stenquist, his wife Kristen, Bryan and Corey Stenquist, Kayla, Jason, Kyle and Drew Brown. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held in the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn on Monday, January 16th, at 10:00 a.m. Interment is private. Relatives and friends are invited to call Sunday, January 16th, from 2:00-6:00 p.m. Remembrances may be made in Fred's memory to Cooperative Elder Services, 37 B Street, Burlington, MA 01803.
