Mary C. (Perry) Ryan, 77, Retired Woburn Public Schools Teacher

Mrs. Ryan served the Woburn school system for more than 30 years before her retirement.

WOBURN – Mary C. (Perry) Ryan passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Jan. 10, after a brief illness.

Born in Lucknow, U.P., India on November 21, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Cyril and Evelyn (Philips) Perry.

Mrs. Ryan was a dedicated teacher in the Woburn Public School system for more than 30 years before retiring. She taught at St. Agnes Loreto School in Lucknow, U.P., India prior to arriving in the U.S. in 1971. Mary received her BA from Lucknow University and attained her teachers training certificate from St. Mary's Teachers Training College in Allahabad, U.P., India. She also took numerous post-graduate courses in the United States.

She is survived by her husband, Charles C. Ryan of Woburn, her sons, Charles E. Ryan of Beverly, Mass. and Thomas S. Ryan of Woburn, her sister Joan Perry of Wakefield, Mass., and her granddaughter, Anika Ryan of Brookline, Mass. She also leaves behind her brothers James Perry, Anthony Perry, and sisters Gemma Lobo, Gertrude Lewis and Philomena Rodricks, all of Lucknow, U.P., India. She was also the sister of the late Maurice Perry and George Perry, both of Lucknow, U.P., India. Mrs. Ryan is also survived by nearly 100 nieces and nephews.

Mary was a devoted wife and mother and was always giving of herself to family and friends. She loved spending time with her granddaughter, gardening, cooking, scratching lottery tickets, visiting casinos in Connecticut, and “That singing show, I don’t know what it’s called, is it on? (“The Voice”)

Visiting hours at the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home are Tuesday, Jan. 17, from 4 to 8 p.m. A funeral Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 18, at St. Charles Church in Woburn, followed by interment at Woodbrook Cemetery.
