WOBURN, MA — The Woburn-based Cummings Foundation warned community members on Wednesday of a person or people posing as the foundation as part of a scam.

The foundation, which, in part, distributes grants to support other nonprofits in Eastern Massachusetts, said scammers are trying to use the Cummings name to deceive and steal from individuals.

“Please note that the Foundation DOES NOT make grants to individual people, nor does it ever request money from grantee organizations,” the foundation said in a message on Facebook.

The Cummings Foundation noted its official Facebook page. Any other pages claiming to be the foundation or its founders — Bill and Joyce Cummings — are fraudulent, the organization said.

Cummings also shared the authentic details of its annual grant program.
