The election is on Nov. 7, though a preliminary election will be held on Sept. 5 if there are three or more candidates for mayor, five or more candidates for councilor at large, three or more candidates for ward councilor or eleven or more candidates for school committee.

In the high-profile race for mayor, at least three candidates have announced they are planning to run.

Current Woburn Mayor Scott Galvin has said that he intends to seek an eighth term in office.

"I truly enjoy the job and have been doing it now for seven terms," Galvin told the Daily Times Chronicle in March. "We've made great progress for the city in terms of infrastructure and finances, but there's still a lot to do."

Meanwhile, Woburn City Council President Mike Concannon announced in early April that he plans to enter the race. Concannon has served as a councilor at large for a decade.

"It is time for me, both personally and professionally, to step up to offer to lead our community," Concannon said in a campaign announcement. "I believe that my cumulative personal and professional life experiences, as well as my 10 years on the City Council, serving as president the past two years, have prepared me to take the next step. I also believe that it is time for our city to move forward and for us to foster a more collaborative approach to city government."

Late last year, 19-year-old Omar Mohuddin, a 2022 Woburn Memorial High School graduate and first-year student at Northeastern, said he will be running for mayor of Woburn in 2023.

"I've always been very passionate about leading, bringing change and giving back," Mohuddin told Patch. "I wanted to be more involved in the decision-making that affects the city I live in. It is an opportunity to give back to the community that made me."
