Woburn-Area Ice Rink To Raise Money For Boys & Girls Clubs

WOBURN, MA — Woburn community members will have a chance to skate for a cause this weekend as part of a 30th anniversary celebration for the FMC Ice Sports network.

All 27 FMC Ice Sports rinks across Massachusetts will donate 30% of their public skating admissions proceeds between Dec. 2 and Dec. 4 to the Massachusetts Alliance of Boys and Girls Clubs.

While Woburn already has separate local skating via the O’Brien Ice Rink in town, community members need only travel to the Burlington Ice Palace in Burlington to take part in the FMC fundraiser.

FMC Ice Sports got its start in 1992, eventually taking over management of close to two dozen state Department of Conservation rinks.

The organization also now manages a series of municipal rinks, as well as Fitchburg State University’s Wallace Civic Center, and a handful of other arenas.

FMC announced the 30th anniversary celebration and fundraiser earlier this month.

The James L. McKeown Boys & Girls Club of Woburn promoted the fundraiser this week, encouraging local community members to make the trip to Burlington this weekend.

Donated money for the Alliance of Boys and Girls Clubs will specifically go to the Boys and Girls Clubs’ Youth of the Year program.

The program, which is itself in its 76th year, aims to honor and encourage outstanding young people through a series of leadership programs and celebrations, among other things.

The Burlington Ice Palace is located at 36 Ray Ave. in Burlington.
