Woburn Boys & Girls Club, MSP Starting New Youth Basketball League

The Unity Basketball League is a co-ed, all-skills league for children in grades 7th and 8th. Kids from all communities are invited to play.

WOBURN, MA —The McKeown Boys & Girls Club in Woburn has announced the formation of the new Unity Basketball League, a co-ed, all-skills league for children in grades 7th and 8th.

The league is co-sponsored by the Massachusetts State Police (MSP), which is supporting the league financially, according to organizers.

The season, which starts on Oct. 17, will feature practices on Tuesday evenings and games on Thursdays at the Clubhouse, located at 1 Charles Gardner Ln.

There is no fee to join the league and children from all communities are invited to participate. However, players must become a member of the McKeown Boys & Girls Club, which costs $25.

Registration for the club and the Unity Basketball League are available online.

The league also is seeking volunteer coaches. Interested parties can email Dave Maestri, the health and recreation director at the McKeown Boys & Girls Club. His email address is [email protected].

The Unity Basketball League is part of the MSP TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More) initiative, which connects MSP troopers and partner organizations with young athletes in a variety of sports.

"The initiative strengthens bonds between police officers and youth and families in the communities we serve," the MSP said in a statement.
