Woburn Business Owner Robert Toro Plans To Run For City Council

Toro, owner of a construction business, said he will run for the councilor at large spot being vacated by mayoral candidate Mike Concannon.

WOBURN, MA — Touting a commitment to education, public safety and infrastructure, business owner Robert Toro has announced his intention to run for a councilor at large seat on the Woburn City Council this fall.

The councilor at large seat, one of two on the council, is in play after current Councilor at Large and Council President Mike Concannon announced Sunday that he will run for mayor. The election is Nov. 7.

Toro lives in Woburn's Ward 2 and operates Woburn-based Toro Construction, a full-service construction company that works on both residential and commercial spaces.

According to a campaign announcement, Toro has been a longtime community volunteer, serving on the Woburn Commission on Disability, the Special Olympics of Massachusetts and coaching youth sports in Woburn. Toro also is the incoming president of the Woburn Host Lions Club, an organization with which he has been involved for the last six years.

Through his company, Toro also has given back to the city, sponsoring ice cream socials, a back to school event and a Toro Christmas Giving event. Toro said the company also offers scholarships to graduating high school seniors seeking to advance their education in vocational or technical trades.

A married father of two children, Toro said in his campaign announcement that he believes Woburn is the best place in Massachusetts to raise a family.

According to Toro's campaign announcement: "With an ever-changing scene, Toro believes his strong commitment to education, public safety and infrastructure will result in a better, more desirable Woburn."

The announcement continued: "(Toro) will bring his personal and professional experiences to the Woburn City Council, where he strives to assist in making the necessary decisions to keep Woburn an affordable and desirable place to live and raise a family.

"With the many ongoing developments in the city, Toro can leverage his expertise and offer valuable insight and solutions to situations that are often brought before the City Council. He will work collaboratively with other members of local government and city officials to ensure the best interests of the citizens of Woburn are always the number one priority."
