BRUNSWICK, ME — A Woburn man was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after his vehicle was struck head-on by a suspected drunk driver on Thursday morning in Maine, the Maine Department of Public Safety reported.

Jose Menara, 56, was transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland after his 2013 Ford Transit van was struck by a minivan operated by Maria Kinney, 30, of Waterville, Maine, authorities said. Kinney was driving the wrong way on Interstate 295, according to police.

Kinney, who was driving a 2012 silver Toyota Sienna minivan, reportedly also hit a 2019 box van registered to CI Flooring of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The driver of that van, Travis Mullins, of York, Maine, was treated at the scene for minor cuts, according to police.

Like Menara, Kinney was transported to Maine Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. At the hospital, authorities charged Kinney with driving under the influence.

According to police reports, shortly after 9 a.m., a Maine Department of Public Safety dispatcher received complaints about a minivan stopping on the highway and then going off the road and into the median near mile marker 28 in Brunswick.

Before police arrived at the scene, authorities believe the van, allegedly driven by Kinney, crossed over a median and started heading southbound in a northbound lane.

Police said they ultimately located Kinney's van at mile marker 20 in Freeport, but only after the vehicle had caused a multiple-vehicle crash in Brunswick.
