Woburn Trust Claims $25 Million Scratch-Off Ticket Winner

A Woburn trust is the winner of a $25 million prize, the largest instant winner in the state's history.

WOBURN, MA — A Woburn-based trust claimed a $25 million prize Tuesday, according to Mass Lottery. The Simmons & Schiavo Lottery Trust 2023-28 claimed the winnings as a one-time payment of $16.25 million before taxes.

The lucky ticket was purchased at a Speedway at 709 McGrath Highway in Somerville. The store will receive a $500,000 bonus for selling the lucky ticket, according to MassLive.

Trustee Marco Schiavo claimed the winnings, according to CBS News Boston. Simmons & Schiavo is a Woburn-based law firm.

The prize was the largest ever won on an instant ticket. The winnings came on the scratch-off game Billion Dollar Extravaganza, which costs $50 per ticket and is the most expensive game ever offered in the state. The game offers $1 billion in total winnings.

There are still two remaining $25 million winners in the Billion Dollar Extravaganza game.

The odds of winning the top prize are perilously slim: 1 in 10,080,000, according to Mass Lottery.
