Woburn's Scott Traer Finishes 3rd In 100-mile 'Race Across The Sky'

The 42-year-old Traer completed the Leadville Trail 100 Run in 17 hours, 54 minutes. The race in CO reaches an elevation of 12,532 feet.

LEADVILLE, CO —Woburn's Scott Traer finished third in the men's division at this past weekend's Leadville Trail 100 Run, the 100-mile race that takes place in the attitude of the Rocky Mountains.

Known as the "Race Across the Sky," the Leadville Trail 100 challenges runners with over 15,000 feet of net gain, topping out at 12,532 feet across Hope Pass.

Traer, 42, completed the race in 17 hours, 54 minutes and 12 seconds, coming in behind 29-year-old JP Giblin (17:07:25) and 31-year-old Luke Paulson (17:47:55).

This year's event, the 40th Leadville Trail 100 Run, featured more than 700 runners ranging in age from 18 to 72 years old. Runners represented 49 states and 30 countries, according to organizers.

Approximately 44 percent of participants finished the race, organizers said. Saturday's warm temperatures no doubt proved to be a challenge to many runners.

Those who finished the race in under 30 hours received the coveted belt buckle.

"Our 40th anniversary of the 'Race Across the Sky' was nothing short of spectacular, inspiring and a fair shake of grueling," said Tamira Jenlink, the race director. "The athletes tackled the heat, the climbs and miles upon miles of everything Leadville has to offer. As always, they dug deep, persevered and ultimately rose to the challenge with all their heart, courage and commitment."

In the women's division, 39-year-old Jacquie Mannhard finished first with a time of 21:24:55.

The Leadville Trail 100 Run is organized by Life Time, which has 160 fitness clubs across the U.S. and Canada.
