Patriots Day: Boston Marathon Movie Starts Filming

Movie crews were in the Boston area today to film "Patriots Day," about the Boston Marathon bombings.

QUINCY, MA — The Boston Marathon film "Patriots Day" has started filming in the Boston area.

On Tuesday, crews were in Quincy, reportedly filming shootout scenes. Producers wanted to shoot those scenes in Watertown, where one of the bombers was captured, but town officials denied them a permit.

The movie stars Mark Wahlberg, who will play a police officer character that's a composite of several real officers involved in the manhunt for the bombers. J.K. Simmons will play Watertown Police Sgt. Jeffrey Pugliese and John Goodman will play former Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis. Peter Berg is directing.

Filming is slated to take place in Weymouth in the coming days. Extras are wanted.
