Hell's New Mayor Is Jinx, A Wide-Eyed Cat With Big Feet And Following

HELL, MI — Hell will have a new mayor — and she's a California cat with wide eyes, big feet and hundreds of thousands of social media followers.

Jinx, a 3-year-old, black rescue with 735,000 followers on Tik Tok, 400,000 followers on Instagram and 247,000 followers on Twitter, will become mayor of Hell, Michigan, on Sunday.

Her term will last a single day, Jinx's owner Mia said in a Twitch livestream Wednesday.

"We will have a mayoral stream," she said. "I was going to keep it a secret, but there's an article coming out about it, so I wanted to be able to post that. Jinx is going to be mayor!"

Mia told followers a big mayoral stream is planned — including a list of decrees.

"We are going to be making changes. Jinx is taking this very seriously," Mia said.

She told Patch in an email that Jinx looks forward to her reign as mayor — and is going to be making some major changes (as much as a cat that can’t speak can.)

"In all seriousness I think it’s going to be hilarious and I’m really looking forward to my stream of her ruling as mayor, it’s going to be really fun," Mia said.

Followers suggested items for Jinx's consideration, including a 100-percent tax rate, free cat treats, mandatory salami, banning big dogs, and making it a crime to not follow Jinx.

"She's going to be a corrupt mayor, guys," Mia said. "We have to watch out."

Hell, which reportedly has a population of about 72, is about 22 miles northwest of Ann Arbor. The town's official website said anyone can become "Mayor of Hell" for a day, or an hour.

"You can elect yourself, or someone else as this makes a great gift for those who have everything! But be forewarned, serve us well or we will impeach you the same day! Actually, what the Hell, we will impeach you anyway," the site said.

YouTube comedian Elijah Daniel in August 2017 was sworn in as mayor of the tiny town. He was reportedly impeached shortly after banning heterosexual people.
