One couch was set on fire and 10 students were arrested, but the celebration was largely peaceful rally. The big surprise to security officials was the number of bagels flying through the air in a spontaneous gathering at an off-campus housing complex.

That’s right, bagels.

The Twitter-sphere was full of speculation about what brought on the flurry of flying bagels, and MSU campus police even asked “Guys, what’s with the bagels?” in a Tweet. Even NBC’s ”Today” weighed in from the Orange Room.

The question brought some hilarious responses

“Donuts are like Nerf footballs .... A buttered bagel with cream cheese is firm and offensive when thrown,” tweeted @langloislen.

But the win may go to Twitter user @honestlyboxey “You’re under arrest for assault with a breadly weapon.”

So, tell us:

  • What is up with those bagels?

The Spartans made it to the Elite Eight by upending No. 3 seed Oklahoma Friday, then to the Final Four with Sunday’s 76-70 overtime win over Louisville in the East Regional Final.

The Spartans, who haven’t been to the Final Four since 2010, face No. 1 seed Duke at 6:09 p.m. EDT on Saturday, April 4. The game will be carried live on TBS.

If the Spartans win that game, they’ll play the winner of the Kentucky Wildcats vs. Wisconsin Badgers game, scheduled to start at 8:49 p.m. Saturday.

The championship game will be played on April 6.
