Casting Call: Movie Producers Looking for Paid Extras

"Looking for Alaska," a film based on John Green's New York Times best-selling novel, will be filmed in Metro Detroit this fall.

Local actors looking for their movie break-out moment may not have to go to Hollywood to find it.

The producers and directors of “Looking for Alaska,” a film based on the novel of the same name by John Green, are looking for several paid extras during an open casting call this weekend.

The movie will be filmed in Metro Detroit this fall.

Non-speaking, walk-on parts are available for both men and women of all ethnicities who look to be high-school aged, or between the ages of 18-22, according to a story on MLive.com. Men should be clean-shaven, and all candidates must present a valid photo ID.

Some of the scenes they’ll be involved in include a basketball game. Applicants who are skilled in that game should come dressed in sports apparel and be prepared to demonstrate their skill in drills.

The movie executives are also looking to rent automobiles from the late 1980s to early 1990s. They must be registered, insured, in good shape and in good driving conditions. Vehicle owners interested in having their vehicles featured in the film should bring color photos and contact information.

To be considered, show up at the Costick Activity Center on 11 Mile Road in Farmington Hills from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, or from 1-5 pm. on Sunday, Aug. 30. Applications from those who can’t attend should be sent to [email protected] with “LFA Extras” or “LFA Vehicles” in subject line. The applications should include a professional photo.

“Looking for Alaska,” a New York Times best-seller, is being adapted for the screen by “The Fault in Our Stars” screenwriters Scott Neutadter & Michael H. Weber. Rebecca Thomas is the director, and it’s produced by Temple Hill’s Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen (“Paper Towns,” “Fault in Our Stars”), along with Mark Waters and Jessica Tu,
