Drunk on 4th of July? How to Get Free Ride Home to Clinton Township

A Southfield law firm is again offering vouchers for free cab and Uber rides home on the 4th of July.

Southfield, MI — if you’re out drinking on the 4th of July and shouldn’t be behind the wheel, a Southfield law firm is again offering vouchers for free taxi and Uber rides home.

Christensen Law previously offered the service on Thanksgiving Eve, New Year’s Eve and St. Patrick’s Day.

“We have every reason to believe our ‘Safe Ride Home’ program has saved lives over the last few holidays,” Dave Christensen, founder of the personal injury law firm, said in a news release. “We’ve helped more than 300 people return home safely, and we want to continue offering that service to the community.”

Rather than risk theirs and others’ lives — as well as a costly driving under the influence ticket and high-risk automobile insurance — the service offers a safe ride home.

With an overall increase in traffic, the Michigan State Police typically see an uptick in accidents around 4th of July. Police are expected to increase drunk driving patrols in counties across the state.

“We want to decrease the number of people killed on Michigan roads each year,” Christensen said. “The number rose 10 percent in 2015 compared with the previous year.”

The Michigan State Police recently reported that 963 people were killed on state roads in Michigan during 2015.

As a personal injury lawyer, Christensen said he has seen too many people suffer as a result of drunken driving. For years he has been involved with organizations such as the Washtenaw Council on Alcoholism, Spectrum Treatment and Prevention Services, and others that deal with alcohol/drug addiction. That’s why he’s offering special help.
