MACOMB COUNTY, MI — Heads up, motorists, a popular stretch of freeway is closing in Metro Detroit this weekend, along with several other lane closures, including I-696.

TRAFFIC DETAILS:
Eastbound I-696 will be closed this weekend from I-75 to M-3 (Gratiot Avenue) to allow crews to complete sewer work that requires large equipment across all lanes of the freeway. This work involves repairing sewer pipes to ensure drainage from the roadway. There will be a local lane from I-75 to Dequindre Road only. The detour is southbound I-75 to eastbound M-102 (8 Mile Road) to I-94.
Westbound I-696 will have one lane open from I-94 to Dequindre Road.

PROJECT DETAILS:
The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is wrapping up a long-term repair project on I-696 between Dequindre Road and I-94 in Macomb County. The work has included restoring the crossover locations, repairing barrier walls, freeway lighting, sewer work, joint sealing, installing asphalt shoulders, and finishing diamond grinding. The work on the I-696 service drives to repair the pavement surface and replace curb and sidewalks is continuing.
