Kmart Closing In Clinton Township

The Garfield Road store is expected to close in January.

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, MI — Kmart will close its doors in Clinton Township in January, Sears Holding announced Friday. The store will begin a liquidation sale Thursday to clear stock at the 41601 Garfield Road location, according to a Macomb Daily report.

Two other Michigan Kmarts will also close in January in Battle Creek and Mount Pleasant, WDIV-TV reported. Last month, Sears Holding announced it was closing its St. Clair Shores store on Harper Avenue.

At its height, Sears Holdings was one of the country’s largest retailers. The company had 3,400 Sears and Kmart stores nationwide in 2006, but that number has dwindled to just 1,250, WDIV-TV reported.
