Caleb, an eighth-grader at Berkshire Middle School in Beverly Hills, is the son of Crag and Dhamahi Carroll. He made his debut as a vocal virtuoso at age 6, singing at Life Application Ministries Christian Church in Warren, where his mother is a choir leader and his grandfather, Bishop Adolphus Cast, is the pastor.

He also has sung before local high school games, Detroit Tigers games and other sporting events.

Caleb called his selection to sing before the U.S. Open an “amazing” turn of events and said “I didn’t even dream that big.”

“... They could have chosen anyone, but they chose me,” he said.

Caleb’s parents credit his selection not only to his vocal talent, but also his personality and humility.

“Caleb always has had a million-dollar smile. He gets it from me and my wife,” Craig Carroll said. “His mother works with him a lot and we tell him, ‘God has given you this gift, so be humble.’ And he is.”
