State Fair Runs Friday Through Labor Day in Novi: Full Schedule of Events

The Fifth Third Bank Michigan State Fair has something for everyone.

The Fifth Third Bank Michigan State Fair opens Friday at The Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi and runs through Labor Day, Sept. 7.

Since the inaugural state fair at the location in 2013, an additional 43 acres have been acquired, Blair Bowman, Showplace owner, told Hometownlife.com.

The state fair is privately funded, the first such model in North America. It was established in 2012 as the Great Lakes State Fair, but the name was changed the following year when Fifth Third Bank signed on as a major sponsor.

The additional land allowed for the construction of equestrian show rings, which fairgoers will see for the first time this year. More midway rides have been added, and Detroit Shrine Circus performances have expanded outside.

That frees up room inside the Showplace for livestock exhibits, youth shows, home arts exhibits and cooking competitions, Bowman said.

Novi Mayor Bob Gatt said the fair, which showcases Michigan agriculture and businesses, is a great way to celebrate the Labor Day weekend.

“We welcome all of our friends and families, Novi residents and visitors, to come early, set up chairs and enjoy themselves on Labor Day morning,” Gatt said.
