Karl’s Cabin, 6005 Gotfredson Road, Plymouth

Sample review: “We were looking for a centrally located place for people from South Lyon, Brighton, Canton, Hazel Park and Jackson to have a Mother’s Day dinner this year, when somebody suggested Karl’s Cabin. I had driven past it countless times and wondered what it was like, so I was game.

“It was totally packed that day, so I’m glad we had the reservation. They were perfectly lovely, the food was good but didn’t knock my socks off (I had fish and chips), and the atmosphere was nice. I didn’t hear any complaints about the food, but no one was nom, nom, nomming in elation either.

“The decor is very, um... well... cabin-y. There are dead things hanging on the walls, if that gives you an idea of what kind of place this is. It’s nicer than you’re imagining right now, I bet. It reminds me of “Up North”, if you know what I mean... in a good way. I’m guessing any one born and raised here will know *exactly* what I mean.

“I bet we’ll go here again for another family function, because it was a lovely afternoon and the folks at Karl’s Cabin certainly contributed to it.”

Carrabba’s, 43455 W Oaks Drive, Novi

Sample review: “I really enjoyed this place. Was it the best? Not the best but pretty good. Everything was delicious. And everything that came out of the kitchen looked amazing.”

Zoe’s House of Pancakes, 6339 Orchard Lake Road, West Bloomfield

Sample review: “Best orange juice this side of the MIssissippi.”

One-Eyed Betty’s, 175 W Troy St. Ferndale

Sample review: “ We came here with a large group for Mother’s day brunch and it was fantastic! I highly recommended ordering the homemade donuts. They were outstanding and my kids are asking to go back…”

Local Kitchen and Bar, 344 W. Nine Mile Road, Ferndale

Sample review: “My wife and I had the pleasure of taking our in-laws to Local for an early Mother’s Day brunch. The service was excellent with very accommodating seating arrangements. If I have any gripe, its that the portions were a bit small for a simple eggs/starch/toast breakfast …”

Prime29 Steakhouse, 6545 Orchard Lake Road, West Bloomfield

Sample review: “Went for Mother’s Day brunch. Great food and very nice servers. My steak and eggs was perfectly cooked and Sangria was yummy!”

Ike’s Restaurant Banquets & Catering, 38550 Van Dyke Ave., Sterling Heights

Sample review: “Love Ike’s. My family and I had our Christmas party there last year, and it was great. So it’s no surprise that my mother would make a reservation for a Mother’s Day brunch for this upcoming Sunday.”

The Bird & The Bread, 210 S Old Woodward Ave., Birmingham

Sample review: “I came back here with my family for an early dinner on Mother’s Day and everyone, including my 91-year old grandmother was so impressed by the food. We sat out on the large patio and it was a wonderful setting. ...This place has definitely earned a spot in my restaurant rotation.”

Kruse & Muer, 911 Wilshire Drive, Troy

Sample review: “Went here for Mother’s Day and had a great time as usual. The food was delicious, the cocktails were perfect and the service was spot on. My favorite place for Sunday brunch.”

The Meeting House, 301 S. Main St., Rochester

Sample review: “... We had the chorizo and egg tostada … which includes crisp flour tortilla, ranchero sauce, smashed avocado, pico de gallo, sour cream. Everyone in the restaurant had one at every table so I had to get this. Plus. I love anything Southwestern. I usually don’t like brunch but this was delicious. The crisp flour tortilla was a nice twist to brunch. The eggs chorizo and pico de gallo was a perfect mix. together everything tasted excellent. It looks like a huge portion. I remember seeing others receive in at the other tables and being impressed by how big it looked. Then the next time I look over, it would be gone! I don’t usually eat everything on my plate but this disappeared with a quickness. So good and perfect amount. …”

Kyoto Japanese Steak House, 1824 W. 14 Mile Road, Royal Oak

Sample review: “Excellent sushi! Da Bomb roll is by far the best. Been here several times and never disappointed. They even treat you to a Saki Bomb on your birthday. Did the hibachi once for Mother’s Day and that was pretty good and entertaining as well …”

Breakfast Club, 38467 W. 10 Mile Road, Farmington Hills

Sample review: “Overall it was a great experience, great food, and concluded with chocolate strawberries. This is definitely a wonderful place to eat breakfast. The restaurant puts in extra touches to show that they care about the quality the customer receives. My wife and I both highly recommend this place for breakfast!”

La Marsa Mediterranean Cuisine, 35558 Grand River Ave., Farmington Hlils

Sample review: “This really might be the best food in the area. We ordered one of the ‘La Marsa Feast’ on Mother’s Day. They had plenty of carry out orders but we were not kept waiting at all. Our food was hot, fresh and ready for us when we arrived. The staff was so polite and friendly and they even helped us pack up the car with the trays. The meat was juicy and full of taste and the rice and pita bread, both fresh and hot when we arrived, go well with everything. Don’t forget the garlic sauce either!”

Deadwood Bar & Grill, 18730 Northville Road, Northville

Sample review: “Hats off to the grill cook! I have not had a burger that good in years! We ventured to Deadwood on Mother’s Day for brunch and it was soooo good! Our reservations were right on schedule, the service was perfect and my food was wonderful! I decided to order my first Buffalo burger ever, and boy, I did not regret it! The meat was very similar to beef but tastier. I’m not sure if they seasoned it or what (I didn’t taste any seasoning) but it was so darn flavorful. I usually have to reach for the ketchup and mustard to spruce up a hamburger, but this one would have been ruined if I added anything. The flavor was way too good to mess with. And it is the first burger I have ordered in years that was actually cooked ‘medium’ how I like it – just enough pink inside to keep it juicy!”

Marais, 17051 Kercheval, Grosse Pointe

Sample review: “I love good food, but I really love good food with good atmosphere and service. Marais delivers on all three. My son surprised me by telling me he would take me here for Mother’s day, so we planned our meal for a few days later. I started with a dry champagne with a hint of toastiness, an amuse bouche of truffled egg custard with duck demi-glace-infused mushroom duxelle and watercress puree; my son had a slightly more floral and sweeter champagne, next was foie gras on toast with dates, I paired that with a Sauterne (recommended by our waiter), then black truffle risotto with sweetbreads and parmesan shavings. My main course was duck three ways, confit, breast wrapped in swiss chard with nutmeg and spinach in the middle, and seared with foie gras on top, paired with a Pinot Noir, my son had veal ribs. We each were given a mini loaf of bread that absolutely melted in our mouths, no butter necessary, although it was made in house and provided. We had the violet and citrus dessert. … Everything was completely delicious, I ate things I can never hope to make, which is the whole point, the flavors were complex and interesting and the service was impeccable.”

Giulio & Sons, 600 Town Center Drive, Dearborn

Sample review: “I’ve been coming here every Mother’s Day with my family for years now, so many that we know the servers by name and they seem to remember us, too. … Overall, my food favorites were the omelets, the beef short ribs, the broccoli, and the dark chocolate mousse. ..”

Henry Ford Museum & Greenfield Village, 20900 Oakwood Drive, Dearborn

Sample review: “ … During Mother’s Day, there is an incredible brunch (reserve your spot), the best in town, but only available during Mother’s Day. It is truly amazing.”

Gregorio’s Italian Restaurant, 2356 Biddle Ave., Wyandotte

Sample review: My mother and I stopped in here for a late Mother’s Day celebration and we were blow away by how delicious the cuisine was. I had the Veal Artichoke and Vodka sauce over fettuccine special and my mother had the Veal Parmesan. The meal was all fresh and couldn’t be in our stomachs faster. As if we weren’t full from our meal, we finished the night with a tiramisu that just melted in our mouths. As for the service, our server was fast, knowledgeable in the dishes, friendly! The chef even came out to check on the status of our meal (mid dessert) and I assured him (with a mouth full of tiramisu smile) that I was very happy with what he prepared for us today. “
