DEARBORN HEIGHTS, MI — A Dearborn Heights woman could spend the rest of her life in prison after shooting her boyfriend in the neck during an argument Wednesday, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.

The 41-year-old Dearborn Heights man, whom police did not identify, was injured in the shooting and taken to a nearby hospital where he is expected to be ok, according to police.

Leah Renee Johnson, 30, was charged with assault with intent to murder and felony firearm in connection with the shooting. She was scheduled to be arraigned Friday afternoon in 20th District Court.

If convicted of the assault with intent to murder, she could spend up to the rest of her life in prison.

Police said Johnson shot her boyfriend during a "verbal altercation" that escalated inside a Dearborn Heights home in the 25100 block of Colgate Street, near Beach Daly and Annapolis streets, at 2:38 a.m. The couple lived in the home, according to police.

Officers found the man inside a bedroom at the home suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck, according to police.
