Opioid Crisis: Michigan Communities Take On Drug Companies

Michigan communities join together to file a lawsuit against drug companies, alleging they are responsible for the opioid crisis.

DETROIT, MI — Michigan communities are joining forces to take on the nation's opioid epidemic.

Their goal is to take on the companies responsible for pain pills, showing that history has demonstrated that abuse of pain pills has led users to abuse drugs like heroin.

A federal lawsuit was filed today on the behalf of nine cities and counties across Michigan demanding that pharmaceutical manufacturers, distributors, and pharmacies all should be held accountable for their role in record levels of opioid drug use, death, and cost to local and county governments.

According to a statistic sent out in a release from Macomb County officials, about 175 Americans die each day from opioids, and since the 2000s 75 percent of abusers began their addiction through prescription opioids.
